TRAVEL TEAM SUCCESS

The NRASL has been well represented in Travel Leagues in Northeast Ohio.   The Boys’ travel teams compete in the American Amateur Soccer League (AASL) while the Girls compete in the Northern Ohio Girls Soccer League (NOGSL).

While the NRASL is proud of the fact that six out of the nine travel teams had winning records, we are more proud that we were able to field a record number of travel teams (nine) and that we were able to break that record this fall with thirteen!

Going forward, we will provide more information on the results and status of our travel teams.   Last spring, results for the girls were as follows:

·     The U14 Girls, coached by John Berger and Simon Spielhaupter, finished at 0-6-1 in the very competitive C division.   The U12 Girls, coached and managed by Bryan and Jeanette Asp finished 4-3-1 in the C division.   The U10 Girls, coached by Rich Birsic and Joe Vetrano, finished undefeated at 8-0, winning their division.   Nice job girls!

·     The present U12 Girls team has been together for some years now, and they have quite a story to tell.   They finished 1st in the Spring of 2005 at 7-1 and 2nd in their   division in the Fall of 2005 going   6-1-1. Being moved to   the strongest division in the Spring of 2006 against some very quality teams, they finished in third place   at   4-3-1.    In three out of the last four seasons they have given   up the fewest amount of goals, and are also considered one of the best in team sportsmanship.   All 13 girls return for their fifth season together, moving into the U-13 Division 2 West ranks.   The community and league   can be very proud of how this team has played and represented the city.

·     For the U9 Boys, there were two teams.   The U9 B team, coached by Dan Blagojevic and Jim Fetcko, finished at 6-0-2 and tied for first place.   The U9 C team, coached by Paul Januzzi and Steve Williams, finished at 3-4-1.   The U10 Boys team, coached by Mike Collier and Chris Moore, finished at 7-1, winning the E division.   The U10 Boys also took second place in the Medina Mist tournament in June.

·     The U11 Boys, coached by Joe Vetrano and Paul Januzzi, finished third in the D division at 6-2, while the U12 Boys finished with the same record in the C division.   The U12 Boys were coached by Rich Birsic.   Finally, the U14 Boys, coached by Larry Coreno, finished at 2-3-3 in the extremely competitive B division.   Many of these same boys can now be seen on the high school team and are already contributing to the varsity’s effort!
