Strongsville-based ICI Paints, maker of brands such as Glidden and Ralph Lauren, today announced that it will become a corporate sponsor of Major League Soccer. “This initiative provides us with tremendous opportunities to promote ICI Paints as the paint manufacturer of choice to professional contractors around the country,” company spokesman Geoff Belz said in a prepared statement. The company said it chose Major League Soccer because of its “increasing appeal to a wide range of consumers, from the growing Hispanic consumer base to ‘soccer moms’ who make many of the home remodeling decisions.” ICI Paints’ Glidden brand will become the league’s official paint and it will be promoted in various ways at MLS stadiums across the country. The ICI Paints and Glidden logos also will appear on players’ shirts and in venue signage. ICI Paints is part of the ICI Group (NYSE: ICI), one of the world’s largest producers of specialty products and paints.
